I Need Fired

Seriously, I do. I am like, the single worst blogger in the history of terrible bloggers. So much has gone on since the last time I blogged properly I don't even know where to begin, so don't be shocked if this entry ends up being kind of long and wandering.

First an update on the boys- They're both doing really really well. Jakob is doing fantastic in school and is in the advanced reading group on his class. His teachers (and most of the other teachers as well) adore him. Jericho is getting so big. We're a little bit anxious because he won't hold his own bottle, nor can he sit up on his own yet. We know that all kids develop at their own pace, but I think all parents get nervous when their child seems to be blooming later than what is average. He also sleeps terribly. One of these days he will sleep through the night and poor Bill (who always gets up with him) will actually get a good night of sleep!

I never thought I'd say this, but I think we're going to have to get one of those teach-your-baby-to-sleep books so that we can get him on some sort of schedule, because what he's doing right now, staying up until 3am and only sleeping in one hour spurts, is just not sustainable for any of us.

Bill is still splitting his time between the lab and the school. He's really enjoying getting into the school thing, each day that goes by makes him want to be at the lab less and less. I can't say I blame him, parking up on the hill is a NIGHTMARE!

Christmas was awesome, and BUSY! On Christmas Eve we opened presents with my parents early in the morning, then in the late afternoon we opened presents with Bill's parents. We talked to Jakob about Santa, and he said he didn't want to open any Santa presents on Christmas Morning, he just wanted to leave for 'Pleah and Kyle's. So we only set out the presents we wanted the boys to have for the trip, they opened those up, and we were off to North Carolina.

We actually learned a lot while making the drive to NC. One is that Bill is the master-trunk-packer. Seriously. We had a trunk full of presents, a high chair, baby swing, indoor tent (for Jakob) clothes for four people for a week, formula, diapers, etc, etc, etc. Bill managed to fit it all in the trunk. Of course, when he popped the trunk open once we got there, it sprang up hard enough to take someones head off. I guess it was under a bit of pressure :)

Another thing we learned is that no matter how good the kids are on the 12 hour drive, it's inevitable that one or the other will start crying when we're a mere 45 minutes from our destination. Yup, Jericho did AMAZING all day long, until we were just about there, he was done being in his car seat, he was totally over the drive, and just wanted snuggled. I was amazed though, I mean, the boy went 12 hours with only being held while going into rest stops. That's amazing for a baby his age (and totally not like him!)

Speaking of rest stops, that's another thing we learned. Travel on Christmas Day made us miss a ton of traffic, which was lovely. What we didn't think was that since we weren't traveling on the thruway, there were no actual designated rest stops. You had to get off of the highway in a town when you needed to eat or get gas.

The only problem is, on Christmas Day, everything is closed. Luckily we were always able to find an open gas station (after searching for a bit) to fuel up and go to the restrooms, but there wasn't a single Wendy's/Arby's/Subway open all day long. We survived the drive on junk food.

So that's really all the excitement I can think of just this moment, so I'll leave ya'll with some pictures:

I totally went through the same sleep thing with Josephine and it was TERRIBLE! I read this book "The No Cry Sleep Solution" by Elizabeth Pantley. We did the cry-it-out thing with Maria and it was fine, but it was NOT, I repeat NOT working with Josephine. And she was doing the exact same thing as Jericho - waking up every hour. We were all zombies, and at 10 months, she was still doing it! I got the book from a friend who recommended it, and yes, it basically shows you how to "teach" your baby how to sleep. I read the whole thing cover to cover (it encourages you in the beginning to not just try to skip to the chapters you think you need...), and IT WORKED!!! It was an absolute GODSEND for our family. It takes a few weeks to take full effect, but it really did work. I would check it out soon if I were you. The longer you wait on this, the harder his poor sleep habits will be to break.
