The other day we took the boys to Great Northern Mall to see Gnomeo and Juliet. I should probably preface this by saying that I hate the movie theater. I mean like, really really hate. Everything about it is hate-worthy. I hate sitting in the crappy chairs when I'm 34 weeks pregnant (Great Northern hasn't been updated yet, but I don't like Shoppingtown and I'm terrified of heights, so going all the way up to the theater in Carousel is completely out of the question), I hate spending $30 on four movie tickets when I can buy the movie when it comes out for $20 full price, I hate that a bucket of popcorn costs $8 to eat even though it only cost about $.08 to make, I hate sitting in a small dark room full of loud, annoying, and germ infested fellow human beings (nothing personal, I'm sure you're all very nice people), I hate sitting behind someone who is 12 feet taller than me, and I hate having to move so that people can walk by to relieve their bladder for the 20th time during the first 12 minutes of the movie.
So now that my major hate of the movie theater is well documented, you'll understand that actually going to one was one of the major sacrifices that I have made as a parent (right up there with stretch marks, expensive shoes, and trendy clothes)... because the boys LOVE going to see movies. The movie itself was cute but nothing I'd rave about, but there was this one scene where Juliet's father gnome glues her feet down to the top of a platform to keep her from seeing Gnomeo. For whatever reason, that scene has really stuck with Jericho. For hours after the movie he kept running up to Bill or myself saying "They glued her down!" then he'd go running off to play again.
Here it is, days later, and he's still completely randomly telling us "They glued her down!". He is such a perplexing little boy. I can't figure out what was so special about that scene, but I have a feeling we'll be hearing "They glued her down!" for a good long time to come.
And for the record, if you haven't been to Great Northern Mall lately, you really need to go check out their new play space. They took the old pay-for rides out of the center of the food court and set up this great (FREE!) play space for the kids to run and go crazy in. It's lovely and the boys love it. Bill and the boys both hate grocery shopping, so yesterday I dropped them off to play at the mall and went down the road to the Price Chopper and Target that are together in the same big building to get grocery shopping done. An hour (and way too many contractions!) later I picked them back up again. The boys love that they can play for a while, Bill loves that he doesn't have to get groceries, and I can enjoy grocery shopping without a grumbling passel of men tagging along adding stuff we don't need to the cart :)
