Unpopular Opinions

I swore that I wouldn’t do a status update about the Casey Anthony verdict but since I’ve just read no fewer than 40 status updates about it, I’m going to throw my opinion into the ring via blog post (because my opinion on this totally matters in the grand scheme of things).  I want to preface this by saying- I think that Casey Anthony is as guilty as guilty could possibly be.  I base that opinion off of nothing more than what I’ve seen on the news.  I have watched the trial coverage closely (not the coverage done by biased media outlets- but the actual trial itself) and while most of it was painfully boring- I came out of it knowing one thing: Casey Anthony would not be found guilty.  My guess was that the trial would end in a mistrial or a not guilty verdict.

So many people on Facebook, Twitter, and the Bloggosphere are screaming the justice was not served without taking the time to open their eyes and realize that justice HAS been served, it’s just not the justice that so many expected.

The prosecution took a huge gamble prosecuting a woman for murder based ENTIRELY on circumstantial evidence in a case that nobody could prove actually was murder.  I can only hope that if, for whatever reason I ever find my future in the hands of 12 of my peers, they will be as impartial as this jury was.

Our judicial system is by no means perfect, nor is Casey Anthony- in fact, it seems like she was a pretty shabby excuse for a mother and possibly a human being.  But our judicial system has spoken- Not guilty, and if I were on that jury, I would have agreed 100% with the final verdict despite the fact that I think she did indeed kill her daughter.  The evidence was just not there, and you can not send a person to jail for life or to death without a single shred of credible evidence.

In the end- a beautiful little girl is dead and an already dysfunctional family appears broken beyond repair.  If you believe in God you’ll know that true justice will be served when the time is right and will be completely out of the hands of mere mortals.  If you believe in Karma… well… we all know what sort of woman Karma is.  Let us all try to move on from this story having learned something valuable- that justice isn’t always what we want it to be and that none of us should forget the legacy that Caylee Anthony leaves behind.  Countless children go missing, are abused, and are murdered every single day in this country without the public ever hearing their names.  They disappear into the night without a trace, a voice, or a champion.  Caylee has been found, brought home, and laid to rest- we need to put our effort into making sure that this story stops being repeated in the lives of so many of our young ones.

It pains me to agree with you, because, like you said - that woman is totally guilty of some sort of shady involvement in her daughter's death - but, I agree with you. The jury made a decision based on how our justice system is supposed to work - "beyond a shadow of a doubt". There was no hard evidence, so, ethically, the jury had to vote "not guilty". So sad, but so true. My only comfort in this is that, like you also said - she will get her punishment after this life - God rights all the wrongs - I truly believe that.

I couldn't agree with you more. So many people were shocked that she was found not guilty but why wouldn't she be when the evidence just isn't there. The prosecution should have done their homework properly and not pushed so hard so soon. I'm glad the jury when with what they were shown and told and not with the media and public opinion. I don't think they would be able to live with themselves, possibily sending her to death row, when there was no proof of murder.
